Episode 10 in my series Bands who have impeccable taste and take pride in their album artwork
This month I am going with one from my high school days…Classic Floyd (as I like to call them because of the Classic Rock station). I always enjoyed these three album covers and even some of the songs on them. Some people think their other album covers are cool but not me. These are the only ones I like.
Let’s begin on the left with Ummagumma. This is the kind of album cover you can look at for hours. Especially since sexy David Gilmore is well represented. It’s also nice when you are stoned. In case you have never seen this in real life, the image is repeated over and over in the mirror, but the band members change places. It’s like an infinite cover. Pretty awesome.
Next we have Atom Heart Mother. I like the quality of color and that it is a picture of a cow looking like it got caught being naughty. The band chose this image because they did not want to be categorized in some genre. They wanted to do whatever the fuck they felt like doing…and it worked. I would have no clue what was on this record if I just saw it in the store. I would probably just buy it cause I like cows.
Lastly, Wish You Were Here. That guy is seriously on fire. No Photoshop involved. Enough said.
Time to smoke some doobage and watch the Wizard of OZ while Dark Side of the Moon is playing.
