So, as some of you know, I will be wed later this year…October 9th, to be precise. We are extremely poor and paying for it ourselves, thus we are being very creative. Recently, we found a venue and have since been debating on what food to get- I just want a caterer to bring finger food (because it’s easier) and Todd wants us to get catering from our favorite Italian restaurant, Carmine’s, and have a sit down meal. I am totally cool with the idea of having Carmine’s cater, but it’s gonna be way more of a pain in the ass.
- They are just gonna give us tin foil throw away packaging which seems kinda ghetto for a wedding, so we are gonna have to rent platters/chaffing dishes/serving utensils…not to mention linens. I believe a catering company would supply us with all this extra crap.
- To serve classic Italian dishes, like, say, spaghetti and meatballs, we are gonna have to have enough seats for everyone. Spaghetti and Meatballs isn’t the kind of thing you can eat while holding a cocktail, standing up.This is fine just more work to set up and break down.
- Lastly, if this is the route we take, we will have to hire outside help (waiter/bartender) because setting up tables right after I say my vows and breaking everything down myself is not something I wanna do.
What Todd really doesn’t understand is that a CATERER provides all these things we need in one fell swoop. They are like the Wal-mart of the party world or the Sandals Beach Resort of the party world…all inclusive
Despite all this extra crap that comes with ordering lasagna, I have agreed to Todd’s pleas. I DO, actually, think it would be way cooler to have authentic Brooklyn/Italian cuisine from a place that we go to frequently, rather than boring finger food from a caterer we have no attachment to. We want our friends to have a good time, and honestly, who doesn’t want a mouthful of baked ziti and Parmesan cheese? If you answer “me” to that question, I basically don’t wanna hang out with you anymore.
Anyway, today I started researching what all this extra crap is gonna cost. As I was googling “party rentals-NYC” I came across a company called NYC Waiters and Services. They have a bevy of service industry types that they rent out, for lack of a better word, for events. I immediately went to their rates page. For a bartender or waiter it is $30/hour…not too bad. As I scrolled down the page, I noticed a second option: TOPLESS waiter or BIKINI bartender. I am assuming the waiter will be male and the bartender female, but who really knows? I guess I will if I call and ask for a couple. They ARE only 15 more dollars than a plain old, boring, fully clothed waiter. Todd WANTED the wedding to be memorable. I think it’s a plausible idea. I especially think our families will LOVE it! “Excuse me Grandma. Can you wipe that marinara sauce off my chesticle?”
